Slough Town’s Walking Football section enjoyed a highly successful winter campaign in the Thames Valley Walking Football League (TVWFL), with the 65+ squad finishing runners-up following the final round of fixtures on Tuesday 10 February at Bisham Abbey.
The Rebels secured second place in the standings, finishing just behind Oxford United. Hemel Hempstead, Tring and Maidenhead United trailed some distance behind after a competitive programme of matches played across the winter months.
The final set of fixtures proved dramatic. Slough recorded three victories from their final four games, but a narrow defeat to Oxford United ultimately decided the title. The match was level heading into the closing stages before two unfortunate deflected goals in the final two minutes handed Oxford the win and, with it, top spot in the league.
Walking football remains an important part of the club’s community offering, providing opportunities for older players to stay active, social and connected through the game. The progress of the 65+ group reflects not only their competitive spirit, but also the positive environment created within the club’s wider community programme.
Everyone at Slough Town congratulates the players on a superb season and looks forward to seeing them back in action for the next campaign.
